The intense colour and dynamic forms of Neil Canning's paintings make his work instantly recognisable. Dramatic moments in nature inspire both mixed media works on paper and larger oils on canvas. Printmaking and more recently sculpture add to the wide range of techniques he employs. As well as exhibiting in highly reputable private galleries the artist has also produced major public and corporate commissions. His paintings and prints have also been exhibited at numerous International art fairs since the early 1990's. In 2006 Neil Canning was invited to participate in Art Now Cornwall at Tate, St Ives. His inclusion in this exhibition confirmed his position as one of the new generation of St Ives School Artists following in the footsteps of Patrick Heron, Peter Lanyon and Ben Nicholson. He has been based in West Cornwall since 1998. The pure light and elemental power of the ocean continues to influence much of his work.
