Matthew Chambers: Concentricity II

8 August - 4 September 2026

We are delighted to present a new group of work by one of the gallery's most distinctive makers. This 2026 collection by acclaimed British ceramicist Matthew Chambers reflects the development of his extraordinary work over 20 years of making.  Images will appear online two weeks prior to the exhibition.

Matthew's uniquely beautiful ceramics draw on his passion for geometric and Constructivist art, architecture and design, and his working practice is driven by a love for the technicalities of the making process: combining wheel thrown forms with precision hand building, he explores ideas of beauty, symmetry and abstraction in the contemporary ceramic form, bringing as many as sixty separate parts together in complex works of three-dimensional art.

This new collection renews his emphasis on measured symmetry and intricate pattern, expressed through works of differing scales, each composed of tightly packed layers of clay that twist and flow in the mesmerizing and rhythmic style that defines Matthew's work. This series also introduces a new and more vibrant palette of colours: alongside his longstanding use of whites, creams and earth tones, there is a stronger presence of pinks, blues, ochres and yellows, which further emphasise the depth and dimensionality of each form.

Matthew Chambers gained a First-Class degree from Bath School of Art, and a Master's degree from the Royal College of Art in London. His work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, the World Ceramic Centre in Korea, and at Homo Faber in Venice. His ceramics are also held in museums including The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the National Museum of Scotland, the Musee Ariana in Geneva, and the Sévres Museum
