The stark granite outcrops on the ridge sparkle with recent rain, the autumn foliage tumbling down from them in chaotic golds, reds, yellows and oranges. Unexpectedly, a bank of gorse near the road is in full bloom, its yellow buds cheerful and full of spring promise.
