'My making is an impressionistic response to place and experience. The strangely addictive beauty of Iceland's other-worldly landscape has left a lasting impression on me.Mayo, 2017
Inspired by a recent visit to Iceland, this new collection of sculptural stoneware vessels respond to the country's dramatic scenery. Working from photographs, memory and observed detail, Mayo's painterly surfaces and sparing use of crackled glaze reference the landscape of Iceland's unique geology. Contrasting textures and a palette of mainly black, grey, white, and blue reflect a country of ancient, petrified lava fields, austere horizons of black volcanic rock, steaming geothermal pools, snowy white peaks and dramatic waterfalls.
