Acclaimed painter Judy Buxton returns to the gallery this autumn as our 2025 September Festival exhibiting painter. In her latest collection of paintings for The New Craftsman, Judy Buxton brings together three elements that have been intrinsic to her life as an artist - the quiet elegance of still live, the raw energy of the sea and the timeless strength and grace of the equine form.
Each canvas is an exploration of movement and stillness, light and texture, where broad, expressive brushstrokes capture both the fleeting and the eternal. From windswept horizons to the delicate bloom of a flower, her work is infused with a deep understanding and sensitivity to nature's moods, celebrating beauty in its most honest and unguarded forms.
Her land and seascape, still life and equine paintings are created with a focus on the physical act of painting and her direct engagement with the elements and her canvas: sound, movement, weather, light and the physicality of paint are all essential to her working process.
'I have always painted from visual knowledge and experience, finding the painting in the physical act of working.'
