Francesca Owen
Award-winning, experimental artist Francesca Owen is a specialist in earth pigments and dyes, which she gathers herself from the local landscape. She makes work in and around her studio at Cornwall’s Trewidden Gardens and is deeply influenced by the areas uniquely wild and rugged landscape.
Francesca studied fine art painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, winning two scholarships, and went on complete a residency in Laos, Asia. The residency prompted her investigation into the use of botanical dyes and earth pigments, and she went on to study for an MA in Art & Environment at Falmouth University, carrying out research at Newlyn Art Gallery, Duchy College, Trebah Gardens and Kew Gardens in London. She exhibits throughout the South West and is a tutor in Landscape Painting and Natural Pigments at the St Ives School of Painting.
