Yukihiro Akama

Working from a furniture maker’s workshop in rural West Yorkshire, Yukihiro Akama creates intricate miniature wooden houses, each one skilfully carved from a single piece of oak, walnut, sapele, iroko or maple.

Akama studied Architecture at Tohoku University of Art and Design, in Yamagata Japan, and began his career as an architect.  After moving to the UK in 2011 and feeling a need to create objects with his hands using traditional Japanese tools, he was inspired to begin making small buildings based on the design vernacular of houses from Asia and the UK.

Yukihiro Akama has exhibited his work in the UK and internationally, and in 2024 a solo exhibition of his work was presented at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
