Our research trip in  November 2019 took Sarah and Ylenia to Japan with the proposed idea to deliver a multi-disciplinary exhibition of contemporary crafts sourced from the Mashiko region in Japan. The exhibition is scheduled for 2020 will coincide with the centenary celebrations and the founding of the Leach Pottery in 1920, highlighting the friendship links established between St Ives and Mashiko that continue to flourish today.

Our trip was made possible from kind support from the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art residency programme staff and a grant from the Daiwa Foundation.
