Akiko Hirai | Chapters

This joint exhibition by husband and wife Jason Collingwood and Akiko Hirai will be Jason’s last and marks the end of his 30 year career as an internationally respected weaver.

In celebration of this definitive life change, Japanese born potter Akiko Hirai has created twelve Moon Jars which change appearance throughout the series in reflection of both the lunar cycle, and the circular completion of her husband’s successful career. She has achieved subtle changes in each work by alternating her kiln atmosphere when firing and allowing varying amounts of impurity in the clay that affect the surface detail of each piece.

This truly unique exhibition offers collectors the last chance to acquire work by one of the world’s finest textile artists, as well as works of love and celebration by one of the world’s leading contemporary ceramicists.
