A Christmas Wish - Victoria Walker

Diary Entry April 2020

'I dropped off some groceries for my parents today. Sat in the car, I picked up my phone to let them know I was outside with ‘the goods’. A quick scroll through my contacts and there they are, under ‘Home’. I’m 34 and haven’t lived with my parents for a long time, but Mum and Dad will always be ‘Home’ in my phone. It struck me this is a big reason why we’re all feeling so lost at the moment. We might be stuck indoors, but home is more than your house; it’s a feeling you get from the people you love, a shared sense of meaning that just feels a little off balance and kind of floaty without the usual physical contact. But we won’t be floating forever, and I know there’s going to be so many big hugs (and big roast dinners) when all this is over.'
