However, Sans isn't a miniaturist, he does not simply make a model and paint itkerning0 ,kerning28he am fascinated by light, colour and texture. He uses watercolour, built up in layers of texture then burnt and scraped off to build up layers. Inspired by the kerning0 old doors of farms, peeling paint, rusty gutters, old mine buildings, distant horizons, old Cornish gates, full of character. From this material Sans creates his models andmollages0 , representations of old textured walls and doors in frames. These pieces are intended as portals, textured paintings with an opening that invite you to enter a mysterious space....and the illuminated models of artist studios, ancient barns, views from windows, scenes of old Cornwall. Sans lives and works in Cornwall and is a committed meditator. He walks daily with his dog, Dilly through the Cornish landscape and will sometimes incorporate found objects in his work, his inspiration springs from this identification with nature and from the vastness of the Himalayas, where he treks each autumn. He works in his garden studio surrounded by his many Tibetan mementos and images of his beloved mountains producing work that really does have the ldblquote Wowfactor.
