John Wells
Print
Inscribed verso 'Paul and Pam with love and all good wishes for Christmas and New Year from Johnny. NEWLYN.'
John Wells was a close friend of J.P. Hodin and his wife Pam. They became friends with the St Ives group in the 1960s and wrote about their work. Hodin was the most significant European art critic (after Herbert Read) to commit himself to the understanding and promotion of the first generation of St Ives artists. A critical champion of Leach, Nicholson and Hepworth, he was also a keen admirer of Wells.
