Peter Layton 'Since first visiting the New Craftsman some 25 years ago, I have had great affection and admiration for this gallery. It was always stuffed with superb pots and great jewellery - the likes of Breon O'Casey and Brian Illsley - there were treasures wherever you looked. It is even better now with its expanded spaces and fresh look, and I like the idea of showing my glass, as part of a carefully chosen mix of paintings, prints, and fine objects. For this exhibition I am showing a series entitled Arrival of Spring, which came about as the result of a collaboration with the Royal Academy to interpret David Hockney's painting of the same name. Another series, Turquoise Paradiso takes its inspiration from Howard Hodgkin's bold gestural canvases and my new series, with a marine flavour, further explores the painterly use of colour. Inspired by the location and in response to Emma's work, it attempts to capture the spatial and atmospheric qualities of sand, sea and sky, in glass.'
Please re-visit this page on the 12th of April to see the show online.
