We are very pleased to present a showcase of vibrant works by one of Cornwall's best loved and most recognisable ceramic artists. Style's hand built, multi fired works explore ideas of spontaneity and gesture, instinct and expression, and our endless immersion in the colourful chaos of real life. Combining awkwardness of form with naive pictorial narrative, each of these joyful ceramic works exude genuine character and warmth of spirit.
Made at her Falmouth studio during this year's cold winter months and amidst the drama of recent storms and ocean surges, this new collection entitled 'Down by the Sea' reflects the artist's passion for life in Cornwall, with all its visual beauty and material challenges. Inspired by memory and reflection, this body of work relies on dense earth pigments and oxides overlaid with a chaotic palette of lively colour to create unique pieces that are entirely open to interpretation.
Linda Styles is a graduate of Falmouth College of Art, has been a guest lecturer in Contemporary Crafts at UCF and was Course leader of 3D Contemporary Design at Cornwall College. Her work has been exhibited in London, Dubai and the USA.
