FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE
The distinctive work of local painter Emma Jeffryes has become synonymous with the town of St Ives. Known for highly contemporary work which follows West Cornwall's celebrated tradition of naive painting, Jeffryes' town and seascapes draw on a palette of dazzling ocean colours that reflect the unique light of West Cornwall.
With lively brushwork that conveys the vibrant energy of this busy coastal community she paints directly from life, capturing the beauty of beach, sea and harbour throughout the seasons.
Many of the works in this new collection were painted from a waterfront studio atop Crab Rock in St Ives during this year's dramatically stormy winter. Paintings of ominous skies, raging winter seas and Smeaton's brave but beleaguered lighthouse are interspersed with gentler images of spring blossom, settled birds or fisherman heading out to sea on a rare still day amidst the ethereal Cornish mizzle
